Job Title: Controller

SUMMARY:
The Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial operations related to the company’s construction and development projects. The Controller works closely with development teams, project managers, and senior leadership to ensure accurate financial oversight, cost control, and reporting across all active construction projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise employees involved in the accounting process, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, project accounting, and compliance.
- Review and reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly.
- Maintain accurate records of fixed assets and capital expenditures related to construction and development projects.
- Perform month-end duties closely in accordance with the established closing schedule.
- Manage job cost accounting, including cost coding, contract tracking, and expense allocation by project.
- Review contractor invoices, lien waivers, and construction draw schedules to ensure accuracy and compliance with contracts and project budgets.
- Coordinate with project managers and development teams to ensure proper financial tracking of construction projects and capital improvements.
- Prepare financial reports related to construction projects, including cost summaries, budget variance reports, and project financial forecasts.
- Monitor cash flow requirements related to construction projects and coordinate funding schedules as necessary.
- Develop and maintain internal controls and financial procedures related to project accounting and capital expenditures.
- Prepare quarterly schedules and respond to internal and external audit requests related to construction projects.
- Evaluate and improve accounting systems, project tracking tools, and financial reporting procedures to increase accuracy and efficiency.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 4 to 6 years of accounting or finance experience required.
- Experience in construction accounting, project accounting, or development-related financial management preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting procedures related to construction and capital projects.
- Experience with job costing, capital project budgeting, and project financial reporting.
- Superior analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively with project managers, contractors, and leadership teams.
- Familiarity with laws and regulations that apply to accounting and compliance.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills.
- Experience with accounting and financial management systems such as Oracle-based JD Edwards General Ledger System or similar platforms is a plus.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish
REASONING ABILITY:
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong leadership skills, including the ability to manage a team and coordinate with operational leaders, project managers, and outside vendors.
